2008 Level Cross Rodeo

The Annual Level Cross Rodeo held on August 1st and 2nd was a huge success.
On both days, the crowd of 1000 plus couldn’t wait to get in the arena including Mother Nature.
On Friday, she was welcomed with a gentle breeze and beautiful skies and on Saturday night, she helped keep the amount of dust down to a minimum.
With the combined hard work from Kenny Pierce of the Level Cross Community Association and a local farmer for tilling up the arena before show time and Steve Russell of the Level Cross Fire Dept. for wetting it down on Friday night a got the arena ready for the weekends rodeo festivities.
With the sound of good country music, the smell of great food and the anticipation of getting their favorite seat for the best in outdoor rodeo Level Cross has to offer.
The show opened to a recording of the “Cowboy’s Prayer” recited by the late Roger Harris, the voice of the Diamond H Mid Atlantic Pro Rodeo Circuit. For everyone that knew him did not have a dry eye anywhere.
The new announcer Johnny Lee did a great job for filling some more than large boots with his professional skills in announcing.
As the night progressed, the participants of the rodeo circuit displayed their talents and love for the sport, the Ladies Barrel racing proved to be an extremely awesome show producing some incredible timing and speed. Calf roping and steer wrestling proved to be equally challenging.

The saddle bronc was another challenge for some of the cowboys, one in particular felt what it was like to be an astronaut when the horse he was riding launched him to incredible heights, but the landing wasn’t as smooth as the launch. Too bad he didn’t have a parachute.
There was some NEW acts introduced to the area,

Mutten Bustin (with children weighing no more than 50 lbs rode sheep like their favorite bull rider) and

Bull Fighting, where the rodeo clowns displayed their daring and skills in the eyes of death, just a few inches from the nose and horns of the same bulls that no cowboy could ride.
Unfortunately for the main attraction of the night Bullriding proved to be too much for all cowboys of both nights. I wonder how they split the money for the bulls winning this year?
