The History:

The Level Cross Community Center began with an idea from the existing 85 families that occupied its boundaries.

They began to meet regularly to plan the improvement of their community.

The first decision was to select the location. The area was selected on a 3-acre stretch of land on highway 220.

The community members then decided on how to build the new community center.

During the construction of the community center, Lee Petty donated a building for the members to meet in.

Various events were planned and carried out to help build funds to build the community center.

The construction of the building started in May 1962 and by April 18th 1977, the building and its financing was complete.

The First Leadership of the New Community Center was:

Earl Small- President

Lacy Adams- Vice President

Everett Caroughn- Vice President

George Stinton- Secretary

Richard Davis- Treasurer
